Garden walks for the soul: The Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club

Very few things in life beat the sensory experience of walking through a vibrant and blooming summer garden. The endless shades of greens, the infinite palette of soft, bright, and bold flowers. The sweet smell of the roses, the earthy smell of the dirt. The buzzing bees and the serenading birds. A garden walk is music to the soul, an immersive experience that brings us closer to the earth and to each other.

The Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club has been stewarding and sharing in this immersive experience for 78 years. Established in 1948, they’ve brought the Kankakee community together for decades, promoting environmental stewardship through sustainable gardening practices and beautifying our land. Their mission to connect our county to nature and protect our wildlife and natural resources is carried through everything they do. From inclusive community events like annual garden walks, artisan fairs and plant sales, to their informative programs covering topics like sustainable gardening, herb and veggie cultivation, flower arrangements, pollinator care, and arboriculture, their love for nature and the Kankakee area shines through.

This summer the Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club is hosting an extra special Town and Country Garden Walk and Artisan Faire on Thursday, June 25th in celebration of America’s 250th year. The “Liberty in Bloom” garden tour is an all day event (8:30am to 4pm) and features 8 glorious local gardens! You can buy tickets for $30 and that covers the entire day as well as a delicious boxed lunch provided by the Bennett-Curtis house. The Artisan Faire will also be going all day (8:30am to 3pm) and is a free event. It will be held at Governors Small Memorial Park and features an abundance of local artists and vendors, fun raffles and fabulous food and drinks!
